It comes back to me
first silently then louder
the memory clear as day
indelible
unwanted yet deserved
haunting me even in my dreams
a nightmare in some sense
my private quagmire
finally calmness settles
takes me to the unknown
but the pain is gone
vanished
time cannot heal
the agony caused
yet time will
time will dim the memory
until there is nothing more
I think there are many ways to interpret the concept of pain. I think you nailed the way you think of it, and anyone and everyone can relate to it, which is a sign of good writing.
